Seriously, I need someone to stop me. If not, I fear I'll turn into the crazy chicken lady...and I don't even own a chicken---yet! Yesterday, while out, I bought more chickens. It can't be helped. I see a chicken and I squeak with excitement and snatch it up in my eager little hands. My daughters think I'm loony. I probably am. My newest additions. This isn't their permanent home, I will scatter them throughout my house, I'm not that fargone that I'll actually put all my crazy chicken collection in one spot on display....not that I haven't done that in the past. What is also so great about these chickens, is that I found each of them in a secondhand shop. I'm a huge thrifty shopper. Kijiji is my favourite website on the net. When the snow begins to melt, I begin scouring the newspapers for garage sales. Of course, one of my daughter's favourite purchases are books. They will exit a secondhand shop with an armful of books. Today, I found a great little find myself. Check it out. It's full of awesome photos such as this. And this. And this. The photos can either be wripped out and framed, or just left as they are...inspiring me and my little farm.

I looked out my window last night and saw a dark sky rolling in over the barns. I told hubby something was coming and he said, "Ya, nightime." However, the dark sky was coming in from the lake, east of us, rather from the west. Sure enough, twenty minutes later, it started raining. Yay, the first of the season! Anyway, today I headed down to the small pasture and began clearing this. To reveal what lied beneath. I planned on removing this little table structure but then thought it would create some shelter for chicken or turkey or maybe a goat. At least it would be something for a goat to climb. Not sure though if it sits to close to the fence. Can goats leap that far? I'm thinking they just might. So for now, we're using it for the mini. And no worries he's all alone in there. The other horses aren't too far off. We had a bonfire with the branches and twigs...and enough for the remainder of the summer. Yesterday as I was surfing farm blogs, I noticed a theme. So many people were finding new growth in their gardens. Jealous, I went out and started digging through my messy beds and guess what I found lying beneath them? Yay, spring is coming! Can't wait! Happy Spring Blossom!
It was a beautiful day today to play outdoors with the animals and snap photos. Dakota, our german shepherd loves to chase the horses in the pasture but they all pretty much ignore her, except for Duke the mini. He's petrified of Dakota and runs circles around the farm (as seen in the background). September watches safely from his perch. Or maybe not so safe. Meanwhile, from the front of the house we heard splashing. Don't they realize there is still snow on the ground and we're still wearing winter coats?? I'm participating in the Farm Friiend Friday again over at Verde Farms website. http://www.verdefarm.com/
